Join Shakra for an extensive dissection of high impact movement to discover empowerment through power moves. Using action-packed movements from specimens such as West African Dance, Bhangra, and their own Transfusion Style, Shakra will show you how to harness personal power and channel that energy to areas of the body where it is needed most. This workshop will also observe ways we lose physical and mental energy that affects endurance and performance. Be prepared to be worked from head to toe so bring Schmatorade (half water, half Gatorade) or your favorite thirst quencher.

However, many dancers often feel daunted by cymbal playing and have been using them less and less… Finger cymbals aren’t scary, and this workshop will help you approach cymbals as an instrument and as a way to enhance your performance. With the right exercises, anyone can play cymbals and dance! Asharah will lead you through an intense warm up, teach drills that layer movements and cymbal playing, introduce common cymbal patterns found in Middle Eastern music, and teach a short dance combination focusing on the playing of your cymbals with the music and your movements.

Tribal Alchemy is a NON PROFIT event that benefits SAFE HAVEN of TARRANT COUNTY. SafeHaven of Tarrant County is a non-profit organization created to help victims of domestic violence. They provide shelters, meal, clothing, education, counseling, medical and dental care and other services that really benefit the community. Last year Tribal Alchemy was able to give a van load of donations to SafeHaven along with some money. Thank you to all that donated! This year, their services have been taxed more than ever so lets show them how much we appreciate what they do for others!

~Stage flooring: 3/4" plywood raised on 1x4 slats. Covered by 1/8" tempered hardboard. (As soon as we get the seating configuration we will let you know of the stage area. Don't worry you will not have a little stage in the middle of the room as shown in the picture )
~Dressing rooms are availabe but please come prepared as much as possible because space is limited.
~No fire or animals are allowed in the show.
There are limited spaces so please send in your application as soon as possible

HARE KRISHNA FESTIVAL: ANNUAL RE-CREATION OF ANCIENT PARADE
SATURDAY, APRIL 25TH, 2009

Kalachandji's Hare Krishna Temple of Dallas, Texas, will conduct its annual “Jagannatha Ratha Yatra” Parade and Festival on Saturday, April 25th, 2009. The parade will leave from the front of the Temple at 1:00 p.m. from the front of the Temple which is located at 5430 Gurley Avenue, near 1-30 and East Grand Avenue.

This event celebrates a remarkable story from the ancient scriptures of India, where the Lord of the Universe, Jagannatha (also known as Lord Sri Krishna) is placed on a huge cart and is pulled back to His childhood home by His dear-most servants. This same festival has been celebrated in India for thousands of years where it annually attracts millions of devotees. This festival is also celebrated in major cities all over the world (New York, Los Angeles, London, etc.) every year by the Hare Krishna devotees.

The Dallas parade will leave from the front of Kalachandji's Hare Krishna Temple and proceed through the streets of East Dallas. The large, colorful cart will be lavishly decorated, with the faithful pulling the cart by ropes. In addition, devotees will be singing devotional songs (kirtan) and dancing alongside the cart throughout the parade.

The parade will end at 3:30 p.m. in Kalachandji’s Park, which is located next to the temple grounds, and a festival will be held until 9:00 p.m. The festival will include a free vegetarian feast from Kalachandji’s restaurant, stage entertainment, traditional Indian and Western music, dance, and drama, children’s activities, and lots more. There will be a special guest speaker, His Holiness Giriraja Swami Maharaja, an internationally respected teacher of the Hare Krishna Movement.

Everone is invited! Come for all or part of the festival. Experience an ancient Indian tradition in East Dallas!

We’ll be doing something a little different to celebrate SpinFest this October. First please note that instead of our normal third Saturday event at the bathhouse we’ll be gathering on Saturday October 11th at the WRL Stone Tables instead. Here’s why:

In October Creative Motion will be paring up with the Mystic Mutts and Moonpies Festival to get our twirl on! We did this last year and it was SO much fun! This is a FREE event benefiting the Weimaraner Rescue of North Texas and Conscious Crossings, Inc not to mention the sea of pet rescue groups that come out. There are vendors with all kinds of amazing treasures, cool people, precious pooches, live music, drumming groups, belly dancers, flying Frisbee dogs, contests, a pet psychic, food (veggie friendly!), and of course US!

If you’ve been coveting a Hula Hoop, Staff or Set of poi from Creative Motion, you’re in luck, we’ll be set up with our own booth this year and running the whirling fun in the center field! July 26th- vendors needed!!

We are looking for more vendors for our next and future events. Vendors of jewelry, clothing, and art tend to do well. We've also had people "vend" their services, such as palm reading and handwriting analysis.

Kismet Stage Events usually has vending space available at their dance events held once about every two months. This month we have a few more tables to reserve for our next event on July 26th. Tables are $20 (balcony) or $40 (floor). This reserves the space and gets you in to the event for free. Any extra tables, floor stands, etc. are an extra $10 each. All helpers/assistants must pay the $10 entrance fee to the event.

Kismet is a multicultural dance event with an average audience of about 80 people and around 20 -30 dancers. All merchandise has to be family friendly. The events are held in Carrollton.

Hey Spinners, Drummers and Groovers!!!

This month is hectic so I’m having people come out to the Mystics, Mutts and Moonpies festival at white rock lake in Dallas on October 13th instead of just a jam on our own. Bring your toys and hang out while we groove to music and show love to our four legged friends. So come on out and hang with me and mine at the Creative Motion “camp”, spin to some tunes and help out the furries in need. It’s a pretty cool idea for a festival. She’s organized a “hoop-a-thon “to benefit various animal charities. I’m loving it! If you can go and would like to join me and the group of Spinsters helping me out send me a message or give me a call. I’ve got a new number (as of a couple of weeks ago) so if you need or want the new one just ask. Otherwise look for “Creative Motion” and be sure to say hi. I was thinking about (After Burningman is over) reorganizing and turning creativity in motion into a monthly (or so--depending on what everyone is interested in) Jam. The details are up in the air...but it could be a sort of spin/drum jam that moves around to different parks/hosts, etc....with maybe a potluck attached. I learned a lot from the first spinfest and I'm sorting that info in my head...but I really want to put something together that occurs on a regular basis. I would just like some feedback on the idea.

I'm looking for solo acoustic guitar player/vocalist based in Dallas/Ft. Worth with interest in performing a one-or-two song set for promo of your own personal project.

I'm planning a gathering in Oak Cliff in mid September and looking for an musician to highlight. Artist should have some tracks on MySpace to listen to and have songs that would work in a mixed crowd as this event will be in a open storefront area (so no songs with profanity or heavy political bias allowed). Again, this is for promo. Soul/jazz or r&b styling a plus, but not mandatory.

Of course, you will be allowed to sell your CDs (if you have any) and I will help with marketing your website and CDs (or even an upcoming performance) for this event. I'd also like to interview you for my podcast.

Re: A call for Can-Can Dancers, Bohemians, Burlesque performers, and Anyone else

Hello good people. I am taking over (directing, managing) a Moulin Rouge shadowcast production that has been performed for the last two years at the All-Con All-Genre Convention (www.all-con.org). For those not familiar with a shadowcast, it is basically the same thing as a Rocky Horror Picture Show performance. Actors and Actresses perform on a stage with the movie playing in the background. For this shadowcast, the film has been edited down and the focus will be on the song and dance routines. We will also create additional vignettes to add into the performance.

In addition the the following cast needs, we are also looking for people who are willing to help backstage, belly dancers, poi spinners, techies, AV people, etc. and *****I really need someone who has experience choreographing dance routines.

Broke college kid seeking donations for a new computer!

I started a blog a few days ago, http://makemeswitch.blogspot.com basically telling people my background story:

Full time college student, while working a full time job is difficult. Supporting your family, 4 people and a dog, on top of that is down right challenging.

The purpose of it was to tell my story to everyone on the net, and hope that a few will leave donations. My tagline is “billions of people use the net everyday, I only need a few thousand to give me a dollar and I’ll have a Mac.”

My current machine is a brick of ABS plastic, IBM ThinkPad rocking at 450MHz. It's pitiful, but adequate enough for word and web surfing. The goal is to get enough money to get a 20 inch iMac, and become a switcher since I’ve been a Windows user since age 6 (19 now).

When the whistle blows or someone yells, pull out your pillow and start fighting anyone and everyone. The whole thing will be over in 10 -15 minutes then people can disperse to their favorite bar and start drinking. The West End location was picked because there are plenty of escape routes should the fuzz show up. Keep this quiet but feel free to bring your friends. See yall there. It's on!

Nice doggie needs a home

My mother-in-law is moving and cannot keep her dog. Unfortunately, the terms of our lease prevent us from taking him in.
He is not a pretty dog, but very sweet and good with kids. However, he does not get along well with other dogs, so he cannot go to someone who already has a canine friend-in-residence. He does fine with cats, though.
I would hate to see this sweet, affectionate, mellow guy have to go back to the shelter he was already saved from once.
If anyone can help, let me know, please.

hello fellow tribesters. My name is Erik, I live in San Francisco and have been a tribe member for a long time now. It's great to see how big Tribe has gotten in other cities.
Anyways, here is my pitch. I am in the process of creating a list of all the neighborhoods in major cities around the country where bars/clubs/music venues and hip restaurants tend to be for a listing service on the web. For example, San Francisco has SOMA which is known as a place for lots of clubs and bars... You get the idea. What I am hoping I can get from you kind folks is some feedback on popular neighborhoods in your city. Short and sweet is perfectly fine, details are good too. There are folks doing something local. Contact boarhead. The NTXB, North Texas Burners, already have a Share Site. They have had 3 meet-ups, with one on the proposed site. I am sure they are open to constructive input and attendance.

While I have only been to two Burns I cannot fathom your reference to "half naked galoots trying to get into your ..." On any given day you may see a few naked people, it is self expression, but usually the weather is to harsh for outdoor public nudity for any length. Further, statistics show, yes Black Rock City has them, there are few if any reports of harassment of any kind, and that public opinion of both sexes voice that Black Rock is a safe city, virtually free of person to person crime as compared to any city of like size.

I do agree with you that a local event, with active participation would be grand and suggest that "energies" be used to build up what you want than to tear down what you don't like. As is the positive spiritual and communal intent of The Burning Man Project. One of renewal, participation, sharing and evolving.

Will paper become obsolete???

Will paper become obsolete with the encroachment of the internet? Everything is going digital....so what about business cards? Instead of handing out paper business cards.... what if you could own a desktop icon (like that big E used by Microsoft Internet Explorer) and email it out to your contacts. Once clicked on, it'll open up an interactive digital business card with contact information that will always be accurate and update.

So what do you think of that idea?

I am an LA based Cacophonist and Burner who's coming to Dallas on Monday the 13th through to the 23rd, due to a family emergency. I need a place to stay and I was wondering if anyone has connections in that area of the world. I am very neat, a great vegetarian cook and not a sponge. The Dresden Dolls are touring again and we're looking for interactive performers in the audience for the shows. What you do is pretty much up to you, so use your imagination! Juggling, roller skates, human statues, mechanical ballerinas, bellydancers, trained monkeys, saw soloists, etc... It will be great exposure as their shows have been selling out all over the place. And we definitely need people for Dallas (all of texas, really)

Pagan Pride Day (Sept. 25th)

Dallas Pagan Pride Day is on Sept. 25th at Thanksgiving Square (www.betwixt.org for more info).

Tribal Feat will be performing with Sultan's Dreams from 2pm to 3pm. We'll do 3 short sets, interspersed among the Sultan's Dreams dancers. Not sure yet how many of us there will be, but it will be a great show, so come see us!

Moving to Dallas from El Paso

I have been offered a position in Richardsaon. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on good, reasonably priced neighborhoods. I have a 12 year old so I am also concerned about school quality. I have looked on line and it appears that Plano and Garland are in most in my price range, but can't seem to find anything specific about the schools.
Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Also I was reading your postings and something about boredom. I know alot of tribes that have big get togethers at restaurants, but just an idea from a newbie :)
