We are looking for more vendors for our next and future events. Vendors of jewelry, clothing, and art tend to do well. We've also had people "vend" their services, such as palm reading and handwriting analysis.

Kismet Stage Events usually has vending space available at their dance events held once about every two months. This month we have a few more tables to reserve for our next event on July 26th. Tables are $20 (balcony) or $40 (floor). This reserves the space and gets you in to the event for free. Any extra tables, floor stands, etc. are an extra $10 each. All helpers/assistants must pay the $10 entrance fee to the event.

Kismet is a multicultural dance event with an average audience of about 80 people and around 20 -30 dancers. All merchandise has to be family friendly. The events are held in Carrollton.

PM me if you would like more information on either the event itself or being a vendor this month or for a future event.

Hey Spinners, Drummers and Groovers!!!

This month is hectic so I’m having people come out to the Mystics, Mutts and Moonpies festival at white rock lake in Dallas on October 13th instead of just a jam on our own. Bring your toys and hang out while we groove to music and show love to our four legged friends. So come on out and hang with me and mine at the Creative Motion “camp”, spin to some tunes and help out the furries in need. It’s a pretty cool idea for a festival. She’s organized a “hoop-a-thon “to benefit various animal charities. I’m loving it! If you can go and would like to join me and the group of Spinsters helping me out send me a message or give me a call. I’ve got a new number (as of a couple of weeks ago) so if you need or want the new one just ask. Otherwise look for “Creative Motion” and be sure to say hi. For more information about the festival it self check out the website. www.mysticsmuttsandmoonpies.com

This is NOT a fire event, but please bring your day toys and a sense of adventure and come have a great time with us.

In OTHER Creative Motion Spin Fest news….plan for it the third Saturday of each month. The location will be bouncing around for a while, most likely, until we find a place that we all just fall in love with. Keep your eyes pealed for info in the Dallas Area: Skill toys in the park tribe. As always I hope to see you all there—spinners of all kinds, drummers, groovers, spectators, and everyone else. Everyone is welcome. In the meantime I hope everyone comes out to hang with us this Saturday, October 13th at the Mystics Mutts and Moonpies festival at White Rock Lake in Dallas. I can’t wait! It’s going to be such a fun and inspiring day!

ALSO, For those that wanted to help me with the charity festival but couldn't commit to practices NOTE: If you can commit to being there from 10am to 5pm Saturday the 13th you can help!! I'm treating the day like a spinfest sampler instead of having a group perform...'cause with my crazy schedule and everyone elses crazy schedule PLUS myschevia AND the fact that it's an all day event it just works better this way. SO...if this opens up a window for you PLEASE contact me. I need a few people that can volenteer to hang out help me and jinna out all day.

I love you guys! ...And as always...

Hope, Love and Firelight

The details are up in the air...but it could be a sort of spin/drum jam that moves around to different parks/hosts, etc....with maybe a potluck attached. I learned a lot from the first spinfest and I'm sorting that info in my head...but I really want to put something together that occurs on a regular basis.

I'm planning a gathering in Oak Cliff in mid September and looking for an musician to highlight. Artist should have some tracks on MySpace to listen to and have songs that would work in a mixed crowd as this event will be in a open storefront area (so no songs with profanity or heavy political bias allowed). Again, this is for promo. Soul/jazz or r&b styling a plus, but not mandatory.

Of course, you will be allowed to sell your CDs (if you have any) and I will help with marketing your website and CDs (or even an upcoming performance) for this event. I'd also like to interview you for my podcast.

If this is of interest to you, reply to this bulletin by August 25th and I'll let you in on this details. Freely repost. Thanks.

Hello good people. I am taking over (directing, managing) a Moulin Rouge shadowcast production that has been performed for the last two years at the All-Con All-Genre Convention (www.all-con.org). For those not familiar with a shadowcast, it is basically the same thing as a Rocky Horror Picture Show performance. Actors and Actresses perform on a stage with the movie playing in the background. For this shadowcast, the film has been edited down and the focus will be on the song and dance routines. We will also create additional vignettes to add into the performance.

In addition the the following cast needs, we are also looking for people who are willing to help backstage, belly dancers, poi spinners, techies, AV people, etc. and *****I really need someone who has experience choreographing dance routines.

Cast Needs (May Change)
1 Pink Diamonds Satine
1 Black Diamonds Satine
1 Black Lingere Satine
1 Gothic Tower Satine
1 Evil Duke
1 Toulouse
1 Narcoleptic Argentinean
6+ can-can dancers
6+ "gents" (can be female)
3 Bohemians (can be female)
1 (or more) Green Fairy (male or female)
1 Chocolat

Costumes will not be provided, but we will be providing easy and inexpensive suggestions to putting together a costume out of everyday items, many of which will be available from Victoria's Secret, Fredericks, your own closets (I know you freaks too well ;).

If interested or have questions, please contact me via tribe, or visit www.myspace.com/dallasmoulinrouge, or dallasmoulinrouge@gmail.com. You can also check out the thread on DFW Burners.

It should be a lot of fun and I hope that some of you ladies and gents are able to come help me make this a memorable event.

Thanks-
Davin "Eeyore"

Also, All-Con is looking for Burlesque performers that would be willing to work at the convention. If anyone is interested in performing or knows anyone that is a Burlesque performer or is a part of a troupe, please contact All-Con or me about that.

eXtremeUnderground presents:

Cosmic Meadows: A magical night of music, meteors, and mayhem
Saturday August 12, 2006
10 pm - 8 am

psytrance / breaks / electro / hard trance / downtempo / jazz / folk / hip hop / psy rock / and more...

August 12th marks the peak of the Perseid meteor shower - one of the most spectacular celestial displays of the year. To celebrate this magical night, we have put together a very special meteor watching party. Bring your favorite blanket, sit back, and watch the sky fall while listening to cutting edge psytrance, breaks, electro, and hard trance on the main stage. If you're feeling a more relaxed vibe, Chill Room Chill provides soothing, organic sounds in the downtempo area with live bands and dj's playing folk, jazz, intelligent hip hop, downtempo, psychedelic rock, and more.

In order to see the sky properly, we have secured a beautiful 115 acre private venue near Bastrop (about 35 minutes from downtown Austin), well outside of the city's bright lights. Feel free to bring a tent, and stay as long as you like on Sunday. Be sure not to miss the most amazing event of the summer, and we'll see you on the dancefloor.

---------------------

Main Stage - psytrance/electro/breaks/hard trance

• James "Nobody" Meadows • Mistical Productions/Astral Tribe • Dallas, TX (psytrance) •

If anyone could be dubbed the godfather of Texas psy trance, it would have to be James "Nobody" Meadows. One of the top psy DJ's in Texas for over 12 years, James has been key in pushing the sound to the "mainstream" crowd. He was a founding member of the seminal production company Astral Tribe, and their famous full moon renegades. Eventually, Astral Tribe joined forces with the production company that was to prove exactly what psy could accomplish in Texas - Universal Mind Productions. James later joined up with Mistical Productions, where he resides today. Mr. Meadows can work the decks like no other, taking the crowd exactly where they want to go, exactly where they need to be. He mixes cutting edge new sounds alongside the classics, seamlessly moving from vinyl to cd and back again. James is also known for his genre-bending, and has a strong following not only among the psy scene, but the house crowd as well. As anyone who's seen him can attest, his sets are not to be missed.

For booking contact vurpin@gmail.com .

Check out his latest mix:

"Behind Closed Doors" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/jamesmeadows-behindcloseddoors.mp3

• Thump • Universal Mind • Austin, TX (psytrance) •

Thump has been involved in the psytrance sound and a vital part of the Texas psy community since the mid '90s. His style gravitates around soaring peaks and beautiful valleys with a solid emphasis on ass shaking grooves. Though an extremely talented DJ, he is best known for his work with the legendary Universal Mind productions, and has thrown some of the most memorable psy events in Texas. Luckily for us, he has moved back to Texas after living in San Diego for the last couple of years, and is totally pumped about playing for the home crowd again - get ready for a wild, wild ride.

• Klapton • Mistical Productions/Optiphonic • Dallas, TX (psytrance) •

Klapton is one of the most popular psytrance DJs in Dallas, and a cornerstone of Mistical Productions. His sound ranges from soothing progressive psy to night time stormers of the old school style with the new school sound. In addition to being one of the leading deco artists in Texas under the moniker Optiphonic, we hear he's starting to dabble in production. Will MistProd have another live act soon? Only time will tell. His powerful and uplifting sunrise sets are not to be missed for any reason, and this will be no exception.

If you haven't heard Klapton yet, check out these mixes:

"Passive Aggressive" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/passiveaggressive.html

"In Passing" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/passing.html

"Over Influenced" - http://www.mistprodonline.com/toons/over.html

• Marc Suarez • Wildstyle Phanatiks • Corpus Christi, TX (hard trance) •

DJing since 1997, Marc is one of the top acts in his home town, and regularly gigs all over the state. He has opened for artists ranging from Ludacris to DJ Fuse, and has played alongside more Texas artists than we have room to list. Though his style includes tech house, techno, tech trance, prog trance, and breakbeats, he's going to be laying down a special hard trance set for us that will leave you with knees weak and lungs burning. In addition to his undisputed skills as a master of the ones and twos, Marc has also been in the studio working on his own material, as well as a collaboration with Electropoet.

You can expect to hear some of his brand spankin' new, unreleased material during his set, but in the meantime, you can hear both his mixes and his original material here:

http://profile.imeem.com/C_UUQ

• kRISQUE • kPROD • Austin, TX • 100% original hardware live pa (electro/breaks) •

Born and raised in Austin on a steady diet of snare drums and square waves, kRISQUE quickly grew disillusioned with organic life, eventually leading to his complete machine hybridization. Beats and bass for disgruntled cyborg insomniacs. Prepare for assimilation. Dissent will not be tolerated. 110-110-110. You have been warned...

Begin the mechanization process at:

www.myspace.com/krisquemakesmusic

• Slum^Munky • Silent Beatz • Austin, TX (breaks) •

Get ready for some booty shakin' breaks with the debut performance from Austin's next breakbeat superstar.

---------------------

The Meteor Lounge by Chill Room Chill - jazz/folk/hip hop/downtempo/psy rock

Vestwebber • Austin, TX (the quintessential ruby jazz experience)

Nema V. • Austin, TX (lyrical terrorist)

Comanche Cody • Austin, TX (noise rock/folk noise/acoustic industrial)

Disintegration Window • Austin, TX (deeply twisted electronic ambient shadowscapes)

Dimitri • Austin, TX (interstellar jam band explosion)

---------------------

• Immersive UV art installation by XU •
• Featuring UV Go-Go dancers Supafly Juli and the Jezzabelles •
• Mantra Sound will be on site vending the freshest music and t-shirts around •

---------------------

$10 cover • camping and costumes strongly encouraged
18+ to enter • 21+ to drink (strictly enforced!) • ID required • BYOB
$1 water and other concessions available • coolers and outside food okay

http://www.harmonychannel.com

very awesome music and visuals.

Taken from the website:

Harmony Channel Philosophy

Harmony was founded as a “conscious business,” offering media that uplift the human spirit and honor viewer’s peace of mind. In addition to profit, sustainability and shareholder value, Harmony also provides a harmonious work environment that values creative expression, diversity, integrity, environmental stewardship and quality of life. In other words, we seek to “walk our talk.”

The Harmony Mission

Harmony Channel’s vision is to offer a television network that is an oasis of peace in today’s increasingly fast-paced and cluttered media environment. Harmony enhances the viewer’s peace of mind and invokes a sense of wellness: health food for the eyes and ears. It turns the television into an entirely new appliance – a digital spa!

Harmony Showcases Mindful Artists

Harmony specializes in showcasing the works of artists who are intent on making a difference in the lives of viewers. Ultimately, viewers will choose which videos play in the various MoodZones. Viewers are encouraged to support the artists and Harmony by purchasing DVDs, CDs and related merchandise from the MoodZones Store. Harmony also supports itself with paid sponsorships. Sponsor messages are seamlessly blended into the programming by using our own music, billboard templates, and voice talent.

Living in a Digital Age – Cognitive Overload and Stress

In this digital age, our senses are increasingly flooded with information and distractions from a wide variety of media. In the workplace we deal with a fast-paced environment fueled by instant worldwide information and communications. In public spaces we’re bombarded by digital signs and eye-grabbing information. And even in the sanctity of our homes, television vies for our attention with highly stimulating, information-rich programming.

These excessive demands on our senses contribute to cognitive overload, a state of constant distraction leading to chronic stress. According to the National Consumer’s League, over 80% of Americans report problems with stress, and 63% claim that their stress levels are rising. Job stress is estimated to cost U.S. industry over $300 billion annually, with 40% of job turnover attributable to stress. In the U.S. alone, over 50 million people suffer from sleep and relaxation disorders, according to Hypnion Research. Studies by the NIH and others have clearly shown that clinical stress can lead to serious health concerns.

Television’s purpose has been to inform, entertain and advertise. However the needs of our culture are changing. The trend in commercial television has been to attract viewers with ever more information, titillation, distractions and stimulation – the antithesis of what many of us most need.

People need to chill out!

Scientific studies have shown that the intentional use of music and visuals can uplift, heal, and produce desirable moods that counteract the effects of cognitive overload. Harmony Channel turns that new television set, home theater or HDTV that you just bought into a digital spa.

We Need Harmony!

Harmony Channel is a boldly different kind of network: we engineer programming that actually reduces stress and enhances wellness. Rather than providing information about stress reduction, Harmony Channel delivers entertaining, restorative experiences designed to leave people feeling energized, relaxed, romantic or refreshed.

The Healing Power of Music and Art

Music is scientifically proven to be a powerful mood-altering agent. Viewing natural scenes has also been shown to lower stress and increase mental alertness. Harmony Channel’s programming combines the mood-elevating properties of uplifting music with positive visionary art, compelling nature footage, computer animation and special effects, to create a powerful set of “digital pharmaceuticals” that intentionally alter mood in a variety of positive, desirable ways.

In developing Harmony Channel, we performed extensive research into mind, music, art and healing. Here are some notable quotations from the many papers and studies that we researched:

“Music has well established psychological effects, including the induction and modification of cognitive states, moods and emotions.”
Dr. Norman M. Weinberger, “The Musical Hormone,” MuSICA Research Notes, vIV #2, Fall 1997

______

“Music is one of the most powerful tools for changing brain chemistry. It alters our chemistry instantly, with no known negative side effects. If chosen well, music can be medicine for the mind and soul.”
Dr. Joel Robertson, Natural Prozac (San Francisco, HarperCollins, 1998), p. 152.

______

"Visual exposure to natural settings has produced significant recovery from stress, as indicated by changes in physiological measures such as blood pressure and muscle tension.”
D. Felf, ed., The Role of Horticulture in Human Well-Being and Social Development, (Portland, Timber Press,1992)

______

“Viewing nature scenes is associated with enhanced mental alertness, attention, and cognitive performance, as measured by tasks such as proofreading and by formal psychological testing.“
Environment and Behavior, 1991, vol. 23, 3-26; Cancer Nursing, 1993, vol. 16, 83-92

______

The field of healing music is rapidly growing. Harmony Channel seeks to remain on the forefront of mood-elevating visual music for enhanced wellness, enjoyment, and improved quality of life.

Dare to be BOLD on Labor Day? Birth on Labor Day (BOLD) is asking communities throughout the country - from college campuses to coffee houses to living rooms - to perform playwright Karen Brody's play, BIRTH, on any day over Labor Day weekend (September 1-4, 2006) and then hold a BOLD talkback after the show encouraging women to EDUCATE themselves about the risks and benefits of medicalizing pregnancy and labor, to tell the TRUTH about their own birth stories, and to take ACTION that makes birth more mother-friendly. BIRTH tells seven true stories about childbirth in America through monologues and some dialogue, bringing together the voices women heard on the day they gave birth into a powerful show that exposes the naked truth of childbirth in America.

I started a blog a few days ago, http://makemeswitch.blogspot.com basically telling people my background story:

Full time college student, while working a full time job is difficult. Supporting your family, 4 people and a dog, on top of that is down right challenging.

The purpose of it was to tell my story to everyone on the net, and hope that a few will leave donations. My tagline is “billions of people use the net everyday, I only need a few thousand to give me a dollar and I’ll have a Mac.”

My current machine is a brick of ABS plastic, IBM ThinkPad rocking at 450MHz. It's pitiful, but adequate enough for word and web surfing. The goal is to get enough money to get a 20 inch iMac, and become a switcher since I’ve been a Windows user since age 6 (19 now).

Within the first day of making the blog I got linked to by Gizmodo: http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/gadgets/give-a-poor-boy-a-break-166703.php

The surge of hits got me over $500 in 2 days. I'm simply asking that the more people who know about me, the more likely I am to receive donations. If you think you know someone who can donate then please send them to my site.

Thanks!

The ancient festival of Beltaine marks the transition from winter to summer, from darkness to light. This sacred night was a time of magic and celebration, where the veil between the physical and the spirit world was at its thinnest. This year, we pay special recognition to Cybele, a manifestation of Earth Mother worshiped since Neolithic times by drinking, drumming, and dancing until dawn.

Today, we have traded bonfires for blacklights and tribal drums for drum machines, creating new rituals to show our appreciation for the cycles of nature. Put on your craziest costume, come join us for a modern Beltaine celebration, and dance your way into summer.

Mike Hale of Gift Culture came on board shortly thereafter to add his flavorful drumming skills. Ever since, they are known for attacking audiences across the states with their energetic and psychedelic full on sound. They have released 3 albums on Subtle Distortion Records as well as numerous releases on other labels and projects. Currently, they are in the studio working on their fourth album. Be prepared as this trio will bombard your senses and shake your asses with a 2 hour set of their signature sound.

Over the following years, his skillfully mixed high energy sets have left dancefloors quaking across the North American continent. In late 2004, Mist joined forces with Acidance Records from Athens, Greece, for whom he has compiled 2 successful releases - Dirty South and A Violent Reaction. He also produces under the monkier "justincaseboy" with licensed material ready to be released later this year.
Actually, the first and second rules of PILLOW FIGHT CLUB are, bring a soft pillow and have fun.

When and what to do:
Tomorrow Saturday April 1 (no, this is not an april fools joke on you) bring a pillow concealed in a bag, backpack or the like and show up quietly at exactly 6:30pm in front of the big Godzilla in the West End. When the whistle blows or someone yells, pull out your pillow and start fighting anyone and everyone. The whole thing will be over in 10 -15 minutes then people can disperse to their favorite bar and start drinking. The West End location was picked because there are plenty of escape routes should the fuzz show up. Keep this quiet but feel free to bring your friends. See yall there. It's on!
Anyways, here is my pitch. I am in the process of creating a list of all the neighborhoods in major cities around the country where bars/clubs/music venues and hip restaurants tend to be for a listing service on the web. For example, San Francisco has SOMA which is known as a place for lots of clubs and bars... You get the idea. What I am hoping I can get from you kind folks is some feedback on popular neighborhoods in your city. Short and sweet is perfectly fine, details are good too. Feel free to shoot me a message if you have questions. If you help me out with this, I promise I will hook you up when you travel to SF... I'll hook you up anyways come to think of it.

Translation: Welcome to Brooklyn. Craig Gurwich’s one-man band is back with a second album under the Summer at Shatter Creek moniker, bringing you nine new songs of staggering genius; sketches of victory and failure stretched out like shadows over a slowly aging face. All The Answers is a soundtrack to the horrific beauty of disaster. As yet another generation leaves adolescence and innocence behind in a blaze of pain and destruction, the renewal of what we could be is summed up in a search for All The Answers from Summer At Shatter Creek."

There are folks doing something local. Contact boarhead. The NTXB, North Texas Burners, already have a Share Site. They have had 3 meet-ups, with one on the proposed site. I am sure they are open to constructive input and attendance.

While I have only been to two Burns I cannot fathom your reference to "half naked galoots trying to get into your ..." On any given day you may see a few naked people, it is self expression, but usually the weather is to harsh for outdoor public nudity for any length. Further, statistics show, yes Black Rock City has them, there are few if any reports of harassment of any kind, and that public opinion of both sexes voice that Black Rock is a safe city, virtually free of person to person crime as compared to any city of like size.

I do agree with you that a local event, with active participation would be grand and suggest that "energies" be used to build up what you want than to tear down what you don't like. As is the positive spiritual and communal intent of The Burning Man Project. One of renewal, participation, sharing and evolving.

Here is a Yahoo Group for DFW folks networking for transportation and camp sharing together.

I will pose this question to you. Have you been to The Burning Man Festival? If you have not I will gift a ticket to you. The rest would be up to you.

Is there anyone else out there who's sick & tired of hearing about Burning Man? I tell ya what, let's do something that's not so out-of the-way, where we wouldn't have to go trapsing through a god-forsaken desert and be surrounded by half-naked galoots trying to get in your pants/skirts/kilts/pantaloons!
Let's go for something inner-city, with just as much panache as any wanna-be could want to be!
Something a little cooler and darker. Maybe a little Goth-y? We could call it "Bleeding Man!"
Yeah, I like the sound of that!

Art, all mediums, from the size of a dime to a 1/4 mile long. See ... be every life style. Study water color, drum dance, learn of new religions and old. Dance naked on a sand beach with no water. Play as you did as a child. Learn about your self. From Comedy shows, Kareoke, talk with loved ones past, to Disco Techno orgies.

This is an extreme camping event. An alkaline sand desert with no life. No bugs, no birds, no plants. You need to take everything you need with you, while there, and take it all back with you. Shelter, food, water, etc. No money is exchanged. Trade, Barter and Gifting are your commerce.

There are advantages going with a group as a Camp. If you are nice, polite, very open minded, very self reliant and don't whine this event and our Camp maybe for you. Here is a link of DFW folks planning on transportation, possible Airport pickups, and sharing in the function of a Camp.
